Hello, I’m just joining this group. I was diagnosed with papillary carcinoma earlier this year. Had thyroidectomy in April and RAI in June.
Welcome, i am one of the moderators for the community. So your treatment is now completed? How do you feel?
I guess it’s done. I am due for bloodwork again in a couple of weeks, but I have no reason to think it won’t be good. I feel pretty good considering and almost normal.
Thanks for the welcome!
Thats great news; these days ”almost normal” is as good as it gets. Feel free to let me know if there are any topics you would like to see discussed or if you have any questions
Hi hols 537…Im also a papillary cancer patient, had my 1st suregery may 09, 2nd Oct 09, and RAI Dec 09. Gearing up for my repeat scan in January 2011.
Hi Tracey.

Hi. Last month I was diagnosed with Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma. I had a thyroidectomy and am now cancer free. I’ve been trying to connect online with others that have had this….but am having trouble finding any. I’d love to hear from anyone.
Hi…I was diagnosed with Papillary Cancer May & Oct 2009. Not sure what the difference is with our cancers.
Papillary and Medullary Thyroid cancers are both cancers of the Thyroid gland but are actually quite different and treated differently. http://news.cancerconnect.com/types-of-cancer/thyroid-cancer/

I wasn’t sure what the difference was either. so I had to look it up. they are really different…but I’m just glad to find someone who had thyroid cancer. I’ve joined a few online groups and it’s hard to find any people with it, let alone with Medullary. So what kind of treatment did you get?
In Dec 2009, I had RAI (Radio Active Iodine). I have 3 boys, and I stayed at my moms isolated from everyone for 7 days, then stayed at least 3 feet away from them for another 4-6 weeks(cant exactly remember….but it seemed like a really long time) Are you on facebook? I have lots of thy cancer friends on there, but no one from Buffalo. Who was your surgeon? How are you doing now, and what was your treatment? Hope to talk to you soon.
Dr. Bergstom removed my thyroid in June. They thought I might have to have RAI but after a CAT scan they said there were no more tumors. So for now I’m cancer free and feeling pretty good, they are still trying to get my horomones level but good otherwise. I was so worried I’d have to have RAI, I have a 3 year old and a 7 month old and I couldn’t imagine not being able to be close to them. It must have been so hard for you! but I guess you have to do what you have to do! They are testing to see if the kind of cancer I had was genetic, but it’s looking like it wasn’t. So I’m thankful for that. I think I saw on you page that you were going in for a checkup. What is that for? I am on facebook, I’d love to connect with others. you can find me on there under Amanda (& Adam) Tyler. talk to you soon

Hello everyone. I am one of your new moderators for this group and I am very excited to be a part of this group. I have had cancer twice. My first cancer was ovarian cancer in 1998 and then I developed thyroid cancer in 2002. I had a thyroidectomy done followed by radiation. My biggest obstacles since having the thyroidectomy is the weight gain but otherwise than that I am a survivor! I would love to answer any questions you may have or help you in any way. I am also a nurse and have been in the medical field for 19 years. I currently work as a Legal Nurse Consultant. Take care and I look forward to being one of your moderators.
