Which source of cells you use typically depends on your age, the activity of your myeloma, and the availabliity of a donor. Most get an autologous stem cell transplant which has become quite safe and is often performed on an outpatient basis as Ronnie mentioned below

Wow-thats great so you are almost 10 years out from transplant for Myeloma. Any long term problems? How long were you in the hospital? Did doctors use marrow or blood stem cells? Thanks for sharing

Help….I’ve just been diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, and I’m trying to get onto the Revlimid pills, but, I just felt a lump in my left breast, which I had a mastectomy done in 2008 and went thru chemo and radiation all thru 2009. My question is, if this lump turns out to be cancerous, would they put me on two separate chemo medications? I’m freaking out and of course it’s the weekend and I cannot even get in to see my doctor until Tuesday.

depending on its location and size a new lump may be benign or a local recurrence which could require no treatment or surgery alone. Sounds like you identifeid it early which could be good news
